Applied Materials Names Tom St. Dennis Senior Vice President

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 16, 2005--Applied Materials, Inc. (NASDAQ:AMAT), the largest supplier of equipment and services to the global semiconductor industry, today named Tom St. Dennis as senior vice president with responsibility for leading the Company's Etch and Front End Products groups. Most recently, St. Dennis was executive vice president and a member of the Office of the CEO of Novellus Systems, Inc.

"Tom is a 25-year semiconductor industry veteran and an accomplished executive with a proven track record of success. St. Dennis was a senior executive at Applied Materials for seven years leading a number of key product groups before departing in 1999 to become CEO of Wind River Systems, a leader in embedded software.
