SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 27, 2007--Applied Materials, Inc. (Nasdaq:AMAT) announced today that it has been named one of the "100 Best Corporate Citizens" in the U.S. for 2007 by Corporate Responsibility Officer (CRO) magazine. Originally developed by Business Ethics magazine and now in its eighth year, the annual survey focuses on best practices in the area of corporate social responsibility, ranking companies on community, corporate governance, diversity, employee relations, environment, human rights, product and total return on investment. Applied Materials was first named to the list in 2001 and ranked number 12 in 2007.

"We are honored to be recognized for our long-standing focus on social responsibility," said Mike Splinter, president and CEO of Applied Materials. "Our position on this list reflects our values and culture and the contributions of our employees, who are committed to enhancing economic and social conditions around the world."

"Applied Materials exemplifies what it means to be a good corporate citizen -- it distinguishes itself from its peers by embracing higher standards, combining strong financial performance with responsible practices on environmental and social issues," said Michael Connor, Publisher and Editor of CRO Magazine. "I applaud them for continuing to raise the bar in Social Responsibility."

In 2006, Applied Materials added an exciting element to its commitment to the environment by announcing its entry into the solar photovoltaic equipment market. The company's objective is to bring significant change to the industry by providing lower cost-per-watt solutions for solar manufacturing -- with the goal of making solar power a significant alternative source of global energy.
