Applied Materials Equips Trecenti Technologies' 300mm Fab; Broad Range of Applied Materials' 300mm Systems Ordered for Hitachi-UMC Joint Venture in Hitachinaka, Japan

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--July 10, 2000--Applied Materials, Inc. announced today that Trecenti Technologies, Inc., a joint wafer fab of Hitachi, Ltd. and United Microelectronics Corp. (UMC), has placed a multi-technology order for a variety of 300mm semiconductor manufacturing systems. Trecenti will use the systems to produce leading-edge chip technologies at 0.18 micron and beyond.

Applied Materials' 300mm systems are expected to begin shipping to Trecenti in the third calendar quarter of 2000.
